This is a website for a half-day tutorial at CHIIR 2026 on Controlled Experimentation of Model Search Behaviour.

Presenter

Hideo Joho is a Professor of Informatics at the Institute of Library, Information and Media Studies at the University of Tsukuba. He is a member of Information Retrieval Research Group at Tsukuba. His research interests include interactive information retrieval, human information interaction, and more recently, model search behaviour. He received his MSc and PhD from the Department of Information Studies at the University of Sheffield, and is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow.

Prof. Joho is a co-founding member and the inaugural Chair of the Tokyo ACM SIGIR Chapter. His service to the community includes roles as General Co-Chair of SIGIR 2017, Program Co-Chair of CHIIR (2019, 2021), AIRS 2015, and NTCIR-8, 9, and 10. He has also served as an Associate Editor (2014–2016) of Information Processing & Management, and currently serves on the Steering Committee Member of SIGIR-AP.
